"Will Fish for Fun" Kids Fishing Derby is an open fishing derby for kids up to the age of 14 from anywhere or from any means to give them a connection with nature. This is a free derby with no restrictions. It is held or headquartered at the Burlington Community Boathouse every year on the Saturday after Labor Day. This year the event is September 12, 2009. Fishing is limited to the Burlington waterfront and no boats are allowed. No parent fishing is allowed but coaching is encouraged. There is a fishing coach crew and interested parties can apply directly to PeteThayer (www.therocknvt@yahoo.com OR tauto1@aol.com) The derby starts fishing at 8am rain or shine and continues untll 11:30am.We are proud and happy to have Charlie Papillo from WVMT radio talk show "The Charlie and Ernie Show" to not only host the event but to help us promote the event and help gain sponsorship, play music and in general keep the kids smiling when the fishing's slower for some. Registration confirmation will be sent to you to help speed along the registraion process on the event day. We have given away over 300 fishing poles since our start 2 yrs ago and hope to be able to buy and give away that many this year! We are doubling the bait order (partially donated by Hog Island Bait in Alburg) so nobody will go wormless! Juniors Pizza is donating pizzas for our dockside after fishing picnic. Hannafords have been quite generous with hot dogs and all the fixings. There are 3 different age groups: 2-5yr/6-9yr/10-14yr with 1st/2nd/3rd place trophys in each age group. Other awards include best sportsperson; smallest fish; most unusual fish. Other prizes may be available as well. In our first year we had 192 kids that weighed in 413 fish and caught and released even more. We gave away 130 poles; 200 tee shirts in 2008. We had 515 kids that weighed in 917 fish and caught and released even more and gave away 175 poles; 300 tee shirts. This year we expect 800-900 kids to weigh in 1500 fish and give away 300 poles & 500 tee shirts. This is the largest kids fishing derby in Vermont.

WIN TROPHIES, AWARDS & PRIZES
All kids ages 2 - 14 are eligible to fish, participation is free.  Bait and Tackle will be provided to all registered anglers. A limited number of fishing poles are available for use in the derby.
Experienced guides will help teach your kids to fish!
