YOUNG TRADITION VERMONT WEEKEND

PART OF KIDS DAY

Young Tradition Weekend, part of Burlington Parks and Recreation’s annual Kids Day, is scheduled May 11-12, 2012, in multiple locations in Burlington.  The weekend highlights involvement by children, youth and young adults in traditional dance and music.

The Young Tradition Vermont (YTV) Weekend will include:

May 11th

·        An evening Family Dance from 6:30-7:30 pm at Edmunds Elementary School.  This is an open band and all musicians are welcomed to join in.

$5.00 per family.

·        Contra Dance at 8:00-11:00 pm.  These dances are part of the Queen City Contra Dance series, a year-round regularly scheduled contra dance series in Burlington. $8.00 per person

May 12th

·        Showcase Contest from 11: 00 am-3:00 pm for 20 soloists, duos and groups of young traditional singers, musicians, and dancers at Battery Park.

·        A Saturday afternoon Awards Reception from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Hilton Burlington to present YTV’s annual awards, winners from previous years, and special guests.

Young Tradition Vermont (YTV) is dedicated to promoting, supporting and celebrating children, youth, and young adults singing, playing, and dancing traditional styles.
Historically, much of the most influential music and dance ever done have been created by artists in their teens and twenties. YTV is there to help these young people to develop and experiment as part of a living tradition passed down from previous generations. The performers featured at YTV events are young in age, but are 'old souls', the latest in a long line of tradition bearers at the intersection of the past and the future.

Sponsors for Young Tradition Vermont include: Free Press Media, Vermont Violins, Northfield Savings Bank,
the Robert F. Hunsicker Foundation, and the Turrell Fund.

This event is funded in part by the Outreach Fund of the Country Dance and Song Society.

A Gateway for Traditional Music and Dance.
