 Ethan Allen Tower Centennial Celebration 1905 – 2005

     A celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Norman-style Tower in Ethan Allen Park, built by the Vermont Society, Sons of the American Revolution, to honor Ethan Allen's life and deeds and as a memorial to him and his Green Mountain Boys.

This significant event will increase awarenessof and pride in our community's efforts to protect and enhance our natural areas and preserve our historic heritage.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2005

 8:00  - 9:00                 Birding in Ethan Allen Park with Birders Lindy Millington & Pat Brace Reed

 9:00   - 10:00                Tour of Ethan Allen Park with Land Steward, Lisa Coven & Botanist, Jeff Severson

10:00 - 12:00                Parade to Ethan Allen Park via Farrington Pkwy, Heineberg Rd and North Ave. Over 40 groups: VT& NE SAR Color Guards, VT Nat'l Guard Color Guard, DAR & CAR, Hanaford's Fyfe & Drum Corps, VFW, Elks, Burlington Police & Fire Depts, Williston, Milton, & St. Albans Town Bands, Dr. Jazz & the Dixieland Jazz Band, St. Andrews Pipe & Drum, Rice H.S. Drum Line, Scouts, VT Expos' "Champ" & Little Leaguers, Jazzercise of Burlington, Three Shriner's groups, and more.

12:00 - 1:00                  Ceremonies in Ethan Allen Park: National Anthem and Battle Hymn of the Republic (in lower park) by the Green Mountain Chorus. Brief speeches by dignitaries. Awards. God Bless America finale led by the Green Mountain Chorus

1:15 – 2:00                   Formal rededication up at the Tower site with local, state and national dignitaries. Entertainment will continue in the lower park. A flag raising, volley & balloons will signal the dedication to those below

12:00  - 4:00                 Food vendors at Ethan Allen Park with a varied selection

2:00   - 4:00                 Olde-Tyme Social in Ethan Allen Park with cake and punch courtesy of Hannaford Bros. Band Concert by the Burlington Concert Band

3:00   - 5:00                 Visit to Green Mount Cemetery where Ethan Allen is buried – (by car-pooling) – S.A.R. Wreath Laying Ceremony at 3:00

6:00   - 9:00                 Sunset dinner-dance on the Spirit of Ethan Allen III, boarding starts @ 5:45 – Push-off @ 6:30 SHARP!  Big Band sound provided by the Green Mountain Swing Band. Ethan Allen's descendants introduced. Brief speeches by dignitaries.  Tributes & awards

ONGOING EVENTS

8:00  - Sunset               Ethan Allen Park & Homestead – Site walks/golf carts, bicycling.  Maps available 

 10:00 – 4:00                 Ethan Allen Homestead Museum and historic home of Ethan Allen, built in 1785. Costumed interpreters give guided tours; children enjoy the Kids Corner & History Playground. It's only a short distance from the Tower. Small admission fee. For more information, call the Homestead at 865-4556

 10:00 - 4:00                  Ethan Allen Park – Pictorial cancellations of cachets & postcards commemorating the Tower Centennial
