Gardeners on Probation
and
Dis-Invited Gardeners
?xml:namespace>
?xml:namespace>
Gardeners on Probation: A gardener may be placed on probation if their individual plot(s) is not taken care of during the season. Plots need to be maintained throughout the season. Weeds need to be under control and walkways need to be tended to throughout the season. Gardeners are also required to participate in one (1) workday or be appointed a specific job by a site coordinator. Gardeners must perform at least 4 hours of service to the garden each season, per plot. As a Community Gardener, it is important to work with your neighbors to maintain an area that benefits everyone.
?xml:namespace>
If the garden is unattended during the season and/or the gardener does not participate in a workday or project, the site coordinator will call the gardener. If the gardener does not respond to the phone call then the site coordinator may place them on the Probation List with the Land Steward. At this point an official letter re-stating the problem will be sent to the gardener from the Land Steward. If the gardener does not address the situation, that gardener may find himself or herself on the Dis-Invited List.

Dis-Invited Gardeners: There are several reasons why a gardener maybe placed on the Dis-Invited List:
?xml:namespace>
- Gardeners who do not clean up their plot at the end of the season
- Gardeners that do not respond to a Probation Letter
- Verbal and/or physical abuse upon another gardener
- Destruction of property
- Stealing another gardener’s produce/herbs/flowers

Letters will be sent out to Dis-Invited Gardeners in the fall soon after the final workday. Gardeners will be able to request reinstatement by attending a Burlington Area Community Advisory Board Meeting or sending a formal request to the BACG Site Coordinator for consideration. The Land Steward will review and discuss the situation with both the gardener and the respective site coordinator. If the site coordinator is unable to attend the meeting, she/he may submit a letter detailing the reasons to Dis-Invite the gardener.

The Advisory Board may make recommendations to the Land Steward whether or not the gardener may return. If the gardener has been granted another season, then that gardener is automatically placed on the Probation List for the coming season.
