ASL 1 for Beginners: Sign language can broaden your communication skills, stimulate your senses, and increase your ability to be expressive. This can be an excellent preparatory tool for learning theatre mime techniques or fostering a career as an interpreter as well as communication with deaf friends in social events. General finger spelling, vocabulary, signing, using facial expression and role playing will be emphasized. Students with some or no experience are encouraged to attend. Prerequisites: none.
ASL 2 for Beginners: Continuing to broaden your communication skills through this American Sign Language 2 sign language course. Entering students should be familiar with alphabets, and have a basic knowledge of vocabulary and numbers. This on-going program will focus on greater use of sentence formation through American Sign Language, varying aspects of deaf culture, and more new vocabulary signs, Classifier signs and more tools. Prerequisites: ASL 1 for Beginners, ASL 1 at colleges.
ASL 3 for beginners: This is similar to ASL 2 for Beginners' class and it is to continue learning vocabulary, numbers, Classifier signs, ASL sentences, conversations. Sometimes to discuss Deaf cultures.
Prerequisites: ASL 2 for Beginners at Parks & Rec, ASL 1 at colleges.
Continuing In ASL: These ASL students who have taken at least ASL 4 from Parks-and-Rec skilled classes and ASL 3 through 4 college credited classes and others who have learned ASL for a long time continue learning more on ASL. We will be learning a lot of vocabulary signs and sign sentences. We also will practice in ASL conversations with sign idioms, loan signs and other signing tools. More discussions on Deaf Culture. This is also flexible of what we all want to learn and to enhance the ASL skills.
Prerequisites: ASL 2 or 3 at Parks and Recreation and ASL 1 to 2 at colleges.
