 

For everyone's
enjoyment, please observe the following rules when visiting a Burlington city
park:
- Please place all refuse, garbage, or
other trash in receptacles provided. Household or commercial rubbish
or garbage may not be left.
- Glass bottles are prohibited from
city parks except at North Beach Campground.
- Vending or soliciting is not allowed
unless licensed by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
- An individual wishing to perform in
a park must first obtain a "Parks Entertainer's License" and pay
the appropriate fee required.
- Camping is prohibited in any city
park, except at an area specifically designated for this purpose.
- Fires may be built in grills
only. Portable stoves are authorized in designated picnic areas only
on fireplaces, or grills, not upon picnic tables or benches. Do not
leave fires unattended. Coals should be placed in charcoal dumps
where provided or removed from the park. Do not dump hot coals in
trash receptacles.
- Firearms, air rifles, gas weapons,
slingshot, bow and arrows, firecrackers and explosives are not allowed in
the parks.
- Please keep all motor vehicles on
roads or parking lots maintained for vehicular traffic. Speed limit
in all parks is fifteen (15) mph. Joy riding within a park is not
allowed.
- Radios or tape players may not be
played loudly enough to disturb other park users. Amplified music
requires approval by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
- A group of 20 or more persons who
wish to use a park facility must obtain a park special use permit.
Reservations for team or group activities must be authorized by the Parks
and Recreation Commission or its representative. Park use permits
are available through the Department. For information, call

- Tennis and basketball courts are for
court play only and other activities, such as in-line skating and
skateboarding, are prohibited.
- Court play at neighborhood parks
(Appletree, Baird, Lakeside, Pomeroy, Roosevelt, Schmanska and Smalley) is
prohibited from 10pm-7am.
- Dogs are permitted in city parks but
must be kept on a leash at all times (Note: Burlington has two designated
off-leash areas, one along the Waterfront in the Urban Reserve and one at
Starr Farm Park.) Owners are required to remove dog waste and
deposit in an appropriate container. Dogs are prohibited, even if on
a leash, from the designated swimming beaches and their adjacent picnic
areas at Leddy, North Beach and Oakledge Parks.
- The possession and consumption of
alcoholic beverages is prohibited in City parks except for the following
locations: Oakledge, Calahan, North Beach and Leddy Parks. At these
parks the following guidelines must be observed:
- Alcohol may only be consumed
between the hours of 7am and 9pm.
- Possession and consumption of
alcohol is prohibited on all roadways, sidewalks or parking lots.
- No such possession or consumption
is from beer kegs, unless prior approval by the Parks and Recreation
Commission or its representative.
- Selling, serving, furnishing
alcoholic beverages, inclusive of keg beer, requires a Vermont State
Caterer's Liquor Permit.
