Fiscal Year 2008 Update

•       Received a Transportation Enhancement Grant from the Vermont Department of Transportation for improvements to Battery Park Extension from the upper fountain plaza to the lower plaza.  This project is being coordinated with the Dept. of Public Works.  The design phase has been completed. Improvements will include a concrete walkway, new lighting and landscaping.  Construction is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2008.

•       Installed two new swinging benches at the Waterfront Park boardwalk utilizing a memorial bench program. 

•       Installed additional pavers at the center circle at Battery Park to complete the circle area.

•       Installed new and expanded playgrounds in Schmanska and Baird Parks

•       Replaced the bridge decking on the Waterfront Bikepath Lakeside Avenue overpass.

•       Completed development of two Bocce Courts at Oakledge Park. 

•       Completed the installation of the "Circles for Peace" earth clock at Oakledge Park. 

•       Assisted a volunteer group, Friends of South End Baseball, in the conversion of the softball field at Calahan Park into a youth baseball field.  Improvements will include new drainage system, dugouts, backstop and field irrigation.  Construction is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2008.

•       With assistance from a volunteer citizens committee, continued with the planning process for the renovation of the Gosse Court Armory into a Community Recreation Center.  A Capital Fundraising Campaign has begun and construction is planned for the winter of 2008/2009.

•       Repaired two sections of the RT127 – Northern Connector bikepath.

•       Completed dredging of the Perkins Pier boat slip basin.

•       Solicited proposals for a new dock system at Perkins Pier.  Installation is scheduled for Spring 2008.

•       Installed two new team dugouts and bleachers, replaced fencing and improved the drainage at the Leddy Park softball field.
